The Winsor and Newton Oil Painting Primer is a ready-to-use primer that creates a smooth foundation for both traditional oil paints and water-mixable oil paints. With very no sinking in, oil painting primer can be applied directly to metal or porous surfaces (glue-sized canvas, untreated wood, hardwood, plywood, paper, etc.).
It works best when applied in a number of thin applications and allowed to dry overnight before painting.
For colored priming, a little amount of oil color can be used into the Oil Painting Primer. After treatment, the ground readily takes oil paints without being chalky or absorbent.
